Lake Buenos Aires Plateau Hike
Lake Buenos Aires Plateau Hike
Between 8 and 8:30 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Los Antiguos. From there, we'll take the road that runs parallel to Lake Buenos Aires until we reach Estancia La Ascensión. Did you know that this ranch in the Argentine province of Santa Cruz has more than 100 years of history?
At the ranch, we'll learn about the projects of Fundación Flora y Fauna, dedicated to the preservation of the great biodiversity of Santa Cruz. After discovering the main functions of this environmental organization, we'll continue our route by road to the plateau of Lake Buenos Aires. We'll stop right at the foothills of this famous plateau, where we will begin our hiking route.
Lake Buenos Aires, also called Chelenko and General Carrera, is an extensive Patagonian lagoon whose eastern section is part of Argentina, while its western section is part of Chile. During the hike, which will cover 4 kilometers with a 400-meter change in elevation, we'll tell you all about the history of this emblematic Patagonian lake.
Don't worry, the effort will be well worth it! Throughout the route, we'll not only admire the great lake, but we'll also see the snowy summit of Mount Zeballos. If weather conditions are favorable, we may even spot some typical Patagonian birds called macás tobianos. Halfway, we'll pause for a picnic lunch that will include meat and vegetable rolls, a selection of fruits and a tasting of homemade puddings accompanied by assorted infusions.
After lunch, we'll return to the starting point of the route and then return to Los Antiguos, where arrival at your hotel is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
