Why Visit the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando?

Located in the heart of Madrid, just a few steps away from the Puerta del Sol, the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando is one of the artistic institutions with the longest trajectory and greatest cultural relevance in Spain.

The permanent collection of the museum includes works by artists of the stature of El Greco, Ribera, Rubens, Zurbarán, Alonso Cano, Sorolla and the Madrazo family. You'll also have the opportunity to admire La Primavera, the only painting by Arcimboldo in Spain, a true jewel of Mannerism.

Did you know that Goya was a member of the Academy since 1780? The museum has 13 of his paintings, including two self-portraits and the famous Carnival scene of The Burial of the Sardine.

Don't miss a visit to the Calcografía Nacional, which has been part of the Academy since 1932. Goya's Cabinet is exhibiting all the original plates engraved by the Aragonese genius for the first time, a unique opportunity to take a close look at this treasure trove of universal graphic art!

Opening Hours

The Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando is open from Tuesday to Sunday between 10 am to 3 pm.

The visit normally takes about 2 hours, which is plenty of time to enjoy every corner of the museum and soak up the history, art and culture.

Temporary Exhibitions

Please note that your ticket does not include admission to the temporary exhibitions that aren't free.

Types of Ticket

When booking, you can opt for one of the following types of tickets:

• Basic Entry: this option applies to adults who cannot benefit from any type of discount
• Reduced Entry: this ticket applies to seniors over 65, retirees, pensioners, students over 25, international students, members of the FEAM and individual members of large families. To benefit from the discount, you must show corresponding ID.
• Free Entry: jobseekers, people with disabilities, university students under 25, children under 18, museum professionals; members of ANABAD, ICOM, IAC and MAV; official tour guides, journalists carrying out professional activities, teaching staff, researchers with an Academy Archive-Library card and graduates in training at the Academy during the current year of the card. In all these cases, the corresponding ID is also required.
