Puffing Billy Train to Emerald Lake Park
Activity Details
Our adventure begins at your Melbourne hotel, from where we'll head east towards the town of Belgrave. During the 1-hour bus ride, you can relax while we share fascinating stories about the region and its stunning natural landscapes.
Arriving in Belgrave, you'll travel back in time to the early 20th century as you board the legendary Puffing Billy, the oldest and best-preserved steam train in the world. This is not just a simple train ride, it's a journey into the past!
With its open carriages, we'll feel the cool breeze on our faces as we travel through the majestic Dandenong Ranges. Imagine dangling your legs out of the windows as the train crosses the iconic Monbulk Creek Bridge. You'll be almost 20 m (65 ft) above the ground!
As the Puffing Billy train winds its way through the mountains, you'll pass through landscapes teeming with life. You may spot animals in the trees, on the ground, and even near the locomotive, all while enjoying views of streams and rivers flowing alongside the tracks. Did you know that these railways helped develop the region? Now they offer us a completely magical experience.
At the end of the train ride in Lakeside, the adventure continues with a stop at beautiful Emerald Lake Park. Here, you'll have an hour of free time to stroll along the park's scenic trails, enjoy the tranquility of the lake, and take a million photos. You can also check out the interactive exhibits at the visitor center, where the fascinating history of Puffing Billy comes to life.
After soaking up the beauty and charm of Lakeside, we'll board a bus to travel back to Melbourne. Finally, we'll drop you off in front of the Melbourne Immigration Museum, bringing the experience to an end 5 to 6 hours later.
