Immerse yourself in Mayan culture past and present with this tour of Ek Balam village and archaeological site from Merida. Plus, visit the beautiful Cenote Xcanche too!
Ek Balam Tour
After picking you up from your hotel in Merida at 8:30 am, we'll set off for the village of Ek Balam.
Upon arrival, we'll take a guided tour of this small village with Mayan roots to meet the locals and learn how to make handmade tortillas, work on a hammock loom and do machine embroidery. What better way to learn about the traditional culture of Ek Balam?
After getting to know the daily life of this village, we'll continue onwards to visit Cenote Xcanche. To reach this enchanting natural underground pool you'll have to cycle or take a tuk tuk along a two-kilometre path, whichever way you prefer. You'll then have the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in its crystal clear waters while admiring the vines falling from above.
Afterwards, we'll enjoy a traditional Yucatecan meal. With renewed energy, we'll enter the archaeological site of Ek Balam, where we'll see temples, a ball court, pyramids, stelae, bas-reliefs and an impressive entrance arch. Exploring this ancient Mayan city, we'll discover some of the key secrets of this pre-Hispanic culture.
Finally, we'll make our way back to Merida. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled for 7 pm.
