Are you curious to take a peek into Mesoamerica's most enigmatic past? To do so, we'll meet at number 61-A on Isabel La Católica Street. There, we'll board the vehicle for a journey of just over an hour to the archaeological site of Teotihuacán. Let's go!
During the journey, we'll prepare ourselves to discover one of the most impressive ceremonial centres of the Mayan civilisation. Upon arrival, we'll enter first thing in the morning and begin walking along the imposing Avenue of the Dead. There, we'll feel how each step resonates with the echoes of a civilisation whose identity remains shrouded in mystery.
We'll observe murals with vivid colours and sculptures that reveal rituals, beliefs and the complex urban organisation of this ancient pre-Hispanic city. One of the first structures we'll see is the majestic Pyramid of the Sun, built on top of an ancient cave considered to be a portal to the underworld and with a highly accurate astronomical orientation. How did they achieve such precision without modern instruments?
After discovering this, we'll see the Pyramid of the Moon, which dominated the ceremonial avenue, and we'll stop in front of the Temple of Quetzalcóatl, adorned with sculptures of feathered serpents laden with symbolism. Did you know that tunnels with remains of offerings such as jade and mercury have been found under this sanctuary?
Finally, after 3 hours of exploring Teotihuacán, we'll start our return journey. To refuel, we'll have some snacks and say our goodbyes at the meeting point in Mexico City after a total of 6 hours.
