Learn about the history of Normandy's most famous monument with this tour of Mont-Saint-Michel. You will also visit the large dam located by the bay of the Couesnon River.
Mont Saint-Michel Tour
We will meet up at the scheduled time on the stairs next to the Mont-Saint-Michel dam. This colossal work of engineering, built to regulate the tides of the Couesnon River, will help us to better understand the maritime flows of this beautiful Atlantic bay.
We will discover turbines, polders, dikes, and other elements next to the dam. Here, we will also enjoy excellent panoramic views of Mont-Saint-Michel and its entire bay, which is one of the top attractions of the Normandy coast. This is an image that will remain etched in your memory forever!
After visiting the dam, we will walk for just over a mile to Mont-Saint-Michel. A footbridge over the Couesnon River will allow us to easily access this picturesque village perched on a rock, which has barely 50 permanent inhabitants all year round.
During the tour of Mont-Saint-Michel, we will observe the fortress walls surrounding the rock and get to know the main monuments of the village, such as the famous hotel-restaurant of La Mère Poulard and the church of Saint-Pierre, located just at the end of the Grand Rue: the main street of Mont-Saint-Michel.
After a three-hour tour, we will finish in front of the monumental jewel of the mountain: the abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel. Those who wish can step inside to discover the Marvelle (the area where the monks lived), the abbey church, the cloister, and the refectory. Due to its great historical importance, the whole monumental complex has been declared a World Heritage Site.
