Workshop Details

At the scheduled time, we'll meet in front of a local house on Acevedo Díaz Street, very close to the Tres Cruces Terminal. For those of you who don't yet know what mate is, it's a traditional tea-like beverage that people drink through a metal straw. You're in for a treat!

Welcomed by Uruguayan hospitality, we'll begin the mate workshop — a drink that's much more than an infusion, but a ritual that connects generations. Traditionally, mate is shared in a circle and passed from hand to hand. Making it a gesture that symbolises friendship and togetherness.

Once we're ready, we will learn how to choose the perfect yerba (mate leaves), heat the water to the right temperature, and prepare both bitter and sweet mate without burning the leaves. A well-prepared mate will always be foamy and aromatic.

Next, we'll move to the most anticipated part of the activity: the tasting. Over sips and stories, we'll explore how this tradition comes to life in Uruguay, Argentina, Paraguay, and southern Brazil.

The experience will become even more delightful as we try six varieties of homemade alfajores (delicious biscuits with different types of filling), all made with Uruguayan dulce de leche (caramel spread). They come in varieties such as cornstarch, white chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, red fruit jam, and the unique 'pinitos' (Uruguayan cookies filled with dulce de leche and coated in chocolate)— the perfect pairing to enjoy alongside freshly prepared mate!

Finally, we'll wrap up this activity and say our goodbyes after a total of an hour and a half.
