We start this fantastic guided tour of Mortain by meeting up at the scheduled time in the charming Place du Château square. There, we will begin to learn about the fascinating medieval history of the city and the events that took place here during the Hundred Years' War.
You will hear all about Robert de Conteville, Count of Mortain. The story of this 11th-century character, the half-brother of the famous William "the Conqueror", is full of surprising mysteries and legends. We will tell you about the main episodes of his life as we head towards the church of Saint-Evroult, one of the main monumental jewels of Mortain.
After admiring the wonderful Christ statue in the collegiate church, we will continue the walk by observing the remains of the ancient walls of Mortain. The next stop will be in front of the famous white abbey. If you want, you can step inside this medieval monument to admire its cloister and the amazing works of sacred art housed in the chapter house and the abbey church. Look out for the beautiful choir stall carved in wood which dates between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries!
After admiring the statue of Christ that the collegiate church houses, we will continue the walk observing the remains of the ancient walls of Mortain. You can't miss the history of the famous white abbey, which you can see from the outside on your own once we finish the tour.
Finally, after a fantastic two-hour tour of Mortain, we will conclude by returning to the original meeting point.
