Pastena Guided Tour
Visit one of the most famous karst caves in Italy and connect with the rural life of the Lazio region with this guided tour of Pastena. A charming Italian village and its surrounding nature await!
Pastena Guided Tour
At 9:30 am, we'll meet on Via Parco Laccaia to start a guided tour of Pastena, a small fortified village with steep narrow streets that has managed to preserve its charm over the years.
During the tour, we'll walk along the old city walls and admire the exterior of the 11th-century Church of Santa Maria Maggiore, enjoying views of the surrounding mountains along the way.
The walk will then take us to the Museo della Civiltà Contadina e dell'Ulivo ('Museum of Rural Life and the Olive Tree,' in English), an exhibition that will demonstrate the vital role of agriculture and livestock in this town. We'll see traditional clothing, oil mills, looms and lots of other historic pieces.
After visiting the museum, you'll get into your vehicle and follow the guide, who will travel in their own car, until we reach the Pastena Caves, about 10 minutes away.
We'll enter this karst cave system and discover its huge stalactites and stalagmites. As we explore its streams, tunnels, rock formations and small waterfalls, we'll tell you all about how this landscape was formed millions of years ago.
At 12:30 pm, we'll finish the tour outside of the caves.
Extend your experience
If you're traveling by car, we recommend combining this tour with a guided tour of Pico, another beautiful Italian village located just 9 km from Pastena.
