With this walking tour you'll discover the main areas of interest in Piriapolis, one of the most beautiful spa towns on the coast of Uruguay.
Piriapolis Free Walking Tour
We'll start the free tour of Piriapolis by meeting at the scheduled time on the steps of the Argentino Hotel. This establishment, built mirroring the luxury accommodations of the French Riviera, was inaugurated in 1930 by Francisco Piria. This Uruguayan businessman founded Piriapolis in 1893, with the aim of creating a spa town that would have nothing to envy of the great European destinations of the time.
The hotel is located on the Rambla de los Argentinos, one of the main promenades in Piriapolis. We'll continue the free tour on this great boulevard, where we'll also see the façade of the Hotel Colón. The building, halfway between medieval and renaissance styles, imitates the architecture of the French petit hôtels so popular in the Alpine areas.
The next stop will be the port of Piriapolis, where we'll see a large number of luxury yachts and boats moored. From there we'll head to the Cerro de San Antonio, and on the way we'll see the venerated fisherman's Stella Maris.
After a tour of approximately one and a half hours, we'll conclude the free tour at the Cerro de San Antonio lookout. This point of the city, situated at 130 metres above sea level, will provide us with exceptional panoramic views of Piriapolis and its entire coast.
From the top of the hill, you'll be able to return to the centre of Piriapolis in its famous chairlift.
