We'll pick you up at your hotel in Puerto Plata at the appointed time and head to the capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo. We'll arrive in this great city of almost 4 million inhabitants after a 3 hour 30 minute journey.
The tour will start in the Colonial City, the oldest area of the capital. Here we'll see historical buildings of great value, including the Columbus Lighthouse, the National Pantheon and the Ozama Fortress, the oldest fort built by Europeans in America.
Following the colonial traces of Santo Domingo, we'll arrive at the Primate Cathedral of America. Its name will give you a hint of the importance of this temple: it's the first cathedral of the American continent. Built by order of Carlos V, the Basilica of Santa María de la Encarnación is a real jewel of Gothic architecture in the country.
To complete the tour of Santo Domingo, we'll walk along Damas Street, where important historical figures lived, and El Conde Street, famous for its shops. Before saying goodbye to the Colonial City, we'll stop in front of the Alcazar de Diego Colón to review its historical importance in the 16th century. Afterwards, we'll recover our strength with a traditional Dominican meal.
Do you still need more to take home an unforgettable souvenir of Santo Domingo? We'll visit the Tres Ojos National Park, a magical place where time seems to have stopped. This underground cave has been formed by the rise of the rivers, leading to 3 natural lakes of immense beauty.
After a full day in Santo Domingo, we'll return to Puerto Plata arriving at your hotel 12 hours after the pick up.
