Discover the astonishing natural landscapes of Petrohue falls with this Andean hiking tour which also shows you the famous Osorno volcano.
Petrohue Falls and Osorno Volcano Hiking Trip
Once we have collected you from your hotel in Puerto Varas, we will head off along the road which runs parallel to Lake Llanquihue towards Ensenada. From this location situated at the foot of the Osorno volcano, we will start our hike to the famous Petrohue Falls, situated in the middle of the national park.
Our hiking route through the Vicente Perez Rosales National Park covers a trajectory of three and a half miles and an ascent of 650 feet. We will walk along a trail known as ‘El Solitario’ (The lonely) which runs around the side of the volcano. This path will guide us through the rich environment of the local ecosystem, which varies from volcanic areas through to the dense forests of Beech, Ulmo, and Tapas trees. We will also witness diverse species of local fauna such as chucao, a type of bird which is typical of these altitudes.
After a route of approximately two hours, we will finally arrive at the famous waterfalls of Petrohue, without a doubt the jewel of the National Park. The distinctive green and blue tones of these cascades are due to an amazing natural phenomenon which we will reveal on your tour. We will rest for a while in this captivating place in order to regain our strength with some snacks and relax in the tranquillity of these breath-taking landscapes.
At the end of the hike, we will return to our vehicle before heading to the lookout of Lake Llanquihue so you can enjoy the extraordinary panoramic views. You will then have own free time to take a walk around its surroundings or climb up to the viewpoints which are situated even higher up. Finally, we will take you back to your hotel in Puerto Varas.
