The Ek Balam archaeological site is one of the finest examples of the remains of Mayan civilization. Discover its legendary history with this tour from the Riviera Maya.
Ek Balam Day Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Riviera Maya at around 7 am and make our way to the Ek Balam archaeological site: a pre-Columbian settlement on the outskirts of Valladolid, in the heart of the Yutacan Peninsula.
Then you'll enjoy a walking tour of Ek Balam, discovering its important Mayan legacy. Among its best-preserved remains are the so called Ek Balam Acropolis: a huge construction containing the tomb of Mayan king Ukit Kan Le'k Tok'. And you'll have time to explore the ruins of the pyramids and the courts where the famous and mysterious Mesoamerican ballgame was once played.
Then the tour moves on to the northern coast of the Yucatan peninsula, where you can find the Rio Largatos. Here we'll climb aboard a speedboat and tour the Biosphere Reserve: hoping to catch a glimpse of the exotic animals of the region: flamingos, lizards, monkeys and a wealth of birdlife included.
With the speedboat tour over, it's time for something a little more relaxed: bathing in the mineral rich white clay. Then, relaxed and nourished, we'll fuel up with a delicious local meal, which includes one dish and a non-alcoholic drink.
Having eaten we'll make our way back to the Riviera Maya, arriving back at your hotel at around 3 pm.
This excursion doesn't include the Federal Mexican Environmental Protection tax - which is 110 pesos per person ($5.60 USD approx), should be paid in cash on the day of the tour.
