San Salvador Street Food Tour
Tour Details
After meeting in front of the National Theater of San Salvador, we'll start this walking tour through the streets of the historic center. The best part? Not only are we going to learn about the city's history, but also its authentic flavors. Let's get started!
First up, we'll visit the Metropolitan Cathedral to admire the intricate facade. There, we'll talk about its multiple reconstructions, which contrast with the weight of its history. Then, a few steps away, we'll be in front of the modern building of the National Library and the Gerardo Barrios Square.
In this square, we'll observe the equestrian statue of President Barrios, a liberal reformer who promoted public education. The next stop will be at Libertad Square, the nerve center of the Salvadoran capital, where street vendors, street artists, and the faithful come in and out of the Church of El Rosario. We'll also enter and contemplate one of the most peculiar Catholic churches in Central America.
Next up, it's time to blend history and gastronomy. We'll head to the street stalls and the most popular markets of San Salvador. Depending on the day, we'll visit the Sagrado Corazón or Central markets, where we'll get lost among their aisles full of aromas and flavors.
Of course, we'll stop in front of the pupusas stalls, the emblematic dish of El Salvador. We'll see women with expert hands shaping these flour tortillas filled with cheese, loroco (a local plant), beans, chicharrón... The list of ingredients is endless. We'll try them with curtido and salsa roja, the most authentic way to savor them!
Depending on the season, we'll also try seasonal fruits and typical sweets like poleada to put the perfect finishing touch to the experience.
Finally, after indulging our palate, we'll return to the meeting point, where we'll say goodbye after a 4-hour tour.
