Portillo Ski Resort & Laguna del Inca Day Trip
Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Santiago and begin this day trip north, taking the famous international route that connects with the Los Libertadores border crossing. We're heading toward the region of Valparaíso!
Our route will ascend the Andes Mountain Range until we reach the viewpoint of El Salto del Soldado, where, if it's a clear day, you'll admire the Cerro Aconcagua, one of South America's natural treasures. Standing at almost 2,296 ft (7,000 m), it's the tallest mountain in America. Don't forget to take pictures of the spectacular views!
3 hours after leaving Santiago, we'll reach Portillo, the oldest ski resort in South America. Founded in 1949, this winter sports center is a symbol of the region and boasts a unique history: in 1966, it was the site for the only World Ski Championships celebrated in the southern hemisphere.
Very close by, we'll find the Laguna del Inca, one of the most mysterious corners of the Andes. Its turquoise waters are surrounded by a mountainous landscape with unparalleled beauty. In winter, it can even freeze, creating a picture-perfect image that looks like it's from another world.
The lake also hides an ancient legend. It's said that the Incan Illi Yupanqui, destroyed by the death of his lover Kora-llé, threw his body into these waters, which, since then, have taken on the emerald color of her eyes.
After enjoying the lake for almost 1 hour, we'll start our journey back to Santiago. Along the way, we'll stop so you can grab a bite to eat at a local restaurant.
Finally, we'll return to your hotel, where we'll say our goodbyes after a total of 11 to 12 hours.
Snow Clothes Rental
During the winter, before you reach the ski resort, we'll make a quick stop at the specialized center where you can rent ski clothes. If you want to make the most of your experience on the mountain and enjoy the site comfortably, this is the perfect option for you.
