Make the most of Preikestolen in winter and spring enjoying a hike up Norway's most iconic rock and cruising down Lysefjord on this day trip from Stavanger.
Preikestolen Winter Hike & Cruise
At 11 am, you'll depart from Stavanger Harbour and begin your two-hour cruise on Lysefjord. This beautiful estuary's name means "Light Fjord" after the light coloured granite rocks through which it runs. Cruising between the dramatic cliff faces, you'll be able to see our destination: Preikestolen, Norway's most emblematic rock.
During the cruise, the captain will navigate the boat close to Vagabond's Cove, revealing the mysterious legend of this natural landmark, and Hengjane Waterfalls, spectacular cascades of crystal-clear water. Reaching the Forsand Pier at 1 pm, you'll disembark and meet your mountain guide, ready to begin your hiking route to the top of Preikestolen.
Along the trek, which takes three and a half hours, you'll make a number of stops for snacks and hot drinks to keep your energy up. Then, at the end of the trail, the mighty Preikestolen awaits us. The Pulpit Rock, as it's alternatively known, towers almost 2000 feet (604 metres) above the fjord - we hope you're not scared of heights!
Having taken in the unparalleled panoramic views from the top of the Pulpit Rock, we'll make our descent down the mountain via an alternative route. As the sun begins to set over the horizon, illuminating the wintry sky with spectacular colours, the guide will provide headlamps so you can safely follow the trail back to base.
Once at the bottom of Preikestolen, we'll return to the centre of Stavanger by road, arriving back around 7:30 pm.
