Veroli Guided Tour
Medieval churches, Roman sites & an ancient library await on this guided tour of Veroli. An essential route to get to know the history and main monuments of this town in the Lazio region.
Veroli Guided Tour
At 9:30 am, we'll meet at Piazzale di Porta Romana to begin a walking tour of the historic center of Veroli. Ready to discover all the charms of this medieval town?
First, we'll head towards Piazza Plebiscito, where two of the most important monuments of this town are located. We'll see the exteriors of the Palazzo Comunale and the Cathedral of St. Andrew, which dates all the way back to the 13th century. Did you know that it was built on the ruins of an ancient pagan temple?
The guided tour will then take us to the Basilica of Santa Maria Salome, built upon the site where the remains of the saint were found back in 1209. We'll visit the interior of the temple and admire its frescoes and its extravagant marble staircase.
We'll continue walking through the old town of Veroli until we reach the Giovardiana Library, one of the most important public archives in the southern Lazio region. Among its oldest manuscripts are 12th-century codices!
The last stop of the tour will be at the Casa Reali, whose courtyard houses the Fasti Verulani, a plaque showing a calendar from Roman times. During the tour, we'll tell you all about how holidays and working days were marked in this curious almanac.
At 12:30 pm, the tour will conclude outside Casa Reali.
