Kerala: Alleppey Free Walking Tour Itinerary
After meeting your guide at the Revi Karuna Karan Memorial Museum, you'll begin your free walking tour of Alleppey, officially known as Alappuzha, a city that has been called the Venice of the East - can you guess why?
The first place you'll visit will be the museum itself, where you'll discover an incredible collection of fine art and decorative art including artefacts made of Swarovski crystals and ivory. After admiring the exhibitions, you'll delve into the heart of Alleppey, heading to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, considered one of the most beautiful in the state of Kerala.
Continue exploring Alleppey, or Alappuzha, stopping along the way to enjoy the views of the city's most historic houses. Reaching the elegant white marble Swetamber Jain Temple, your guide will reveal its significance in the growth of Jainism in southern India.
Strolling between Alleppey's canals, you'll soon understand how they have become one of the most important symbols of the Keralan city, and one of the most popular ways for locals and tourists alike to get around.
Having explored the picturesque canal network that courses through the city, you'll wander over to Alleppey Beach. From the golden sand, surrounded by coconut palms, you'll see the iconic lighthouse which has been watching over the Kerala coastline for over a century.
