Almería Crimes Tour
Eerie tales of murdered actresses and children, families tearing themselves apart... Dare to discover the shockingly violent history of an Andalusian city on our Almería Crimes Tour.
Almería Crimes Tour
The day is 22 January 1922. As the audience settles into their seats, the Santa Isabel de Ceres performance is about to begin. Suddenly, a gunshot rings through the crowd. The audience remains calm, as they believe it to be a rehearsal for the show. The curtains open and the play begins. All seems well until the actress Conchita Robles collapses on the stage, having been shot at point-blank range.
Some witnesses claim to have seen her ghost wandering around the Cervantes Theatre, which will be the starting point for our tour of the crimes committed in Almería.
The man who pulled the trigger and murdered Conchita Robles was the cavalry captain Carlos Verdugo, who was also her recently divorced husband. This murder is still shrouded in mystery and intrigue today, which we'll discuss during our tour.
Our nighttime tour of Almería will continue to the Andalusian Centre of Photography. Here, some images of the place where the infamous Crime of Níjar took place are exhibited. Prepare yourself for tales of love, jealousy and revenge, all crucial elements of this crime of passion committed in a farmhouse. The events of this murder have been immortalised in Federico García Lorca's play Blood Wedding.
After learning about the event that inspired this Granadan playwright's popular work, we'll head to some other places in central Almería that have also borne witness to tragic events. One of these events is the spine-chilling Crime of Gádor. In this Almerian town of the same name, a despicable individual attempted to cure himself of tuberculosis through monstrous means...
It'll then be time to finish our tour of Almería's hair-raising crimes in the city centre and say goodnight.
