Discover Van Gogh's legacy in Arles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence on this art history tour of Provence, including an exquisite wine tasting in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Provence Art History Tour
We'll depart from the Cours Jean Jaurès in Avignon at 9 am and arrive in Arles, a beautiful town on the banks of the Rhône River, where we'll take a guided tour of its old town. We'll spend 45 minutes wandering around past the famous Roman amphitheater and the Café Van Gogh.
Next, we'll head to the outskirts of Arles to see the Pont Langlois, also known as Pont Van Gogh (Van Gogh Bridge). We'll continue the tour in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Did you know that Van Gogh painted his famous work of art The Starry Night in its sanatorium? We'll discover it by visiting the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole monastery, where the artist stayed between 1889 and 1890.
After a free hour for lunch in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, we'll visit two wineries in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where we'll have the opportunity to taste the local varieties. Their wines are known to be excellent!
We'll conclude the tour by returning to Avignon arriving at the Cours Jean Jaurès at 6:30 pm.
The order of this itinerary may vary depending on market days: Wednesdays in Saint-Rémy and Saturdays in Arles.
