Discover the southern side of the Argentine capital with this bike tour. An enjoyable, entertaining and unique way to see south Buenos Aires.
South Buenos Aires Bike Tour
We start our tour of southern Buenos Aires in the popular neighbourhood of San Telmo, where we hear the history of the dock workers and the unmistakable rhythms of the Argentine tango drifting through the cobbled streets.
On our first stop, you will witness a tango show at the Plaza Dorrego square, a regular setting for public performances of this kind. We continue our bicycle route, pedalling to Lezama Park. As you gaze across at the beautiful blue domes and golden stars of the Orthodox Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity you will almost believe you are in Russia. The building, designed in Saint Petersburg, seems to be taken straight out of “a thousand and one nights”.
Then we will ride along Caminito street and Garibaldi street, in the middle of La Boca. We will pedal through the heart of the neighbourhood to the Alberto José Armando stadium, ‘La Bombonera’, home to Boca Juniors football club. Our route then continues southward to contemplate the masterpiece of ferry bridge engineer, Nicolás de Avellaneda, which connects La Boca with the southern docks of Avellaneda, another popular Buenos Aires district.
After enjoying the views of the River Plate from the banks of the docks, we continue pedalling to the Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve, an immense green space in the Argentine capital. From there, we head to the central Plaza de Mayo square. We will hear the history of the principal monuments, such as the famous Casa Rosada (the Argentine President’s executive mansion and office) and the impressive neoclassical Metropolitan Cathedral.
We finish the tour at the same starting point in, San Telmo.
