Tour Details

After picking you up at your hotel, we'll start this tour of El Calafate by heading to the historic center, where we'll learn about the past of this Patagonian town.

As we walk through the streets of El Calafate, we'll discover how its old rural roads gradually became the gateway to the Glaciers National Park.

We'll head to the Redonda Bay promenade, a perfect place to stop and admire Lake Argentino, flanked by imposing snow-capped mountains. We'll walk around the area for half an hour, and if we do the tour in spring or summer, that is October through April, we'll be able to see the flamingos and other migratory birds of the region.

Next, we'll head towards the Glaciarium, also known as the Museum of Patagonian Ice. There, we'll take a 1-hour tour of this glaciological interpretation center through its interactive rooms. We'll see audiovisual projections and relief maps that show in detail the formation of glaciers and their evolution over the years.

While touring the museum, we'll delve into the phenomenon of the Perito Moreno glacier breakup, one of the most amazing natural spectacles. Did you know that this glacier advances between 1 and 2 meters (3 to 6 ft) every day?

After learning all about the Patagonian ice, we'll continue the tour visiting the popular Glaciobar, the first ice bar in South America. Once inside, we'll wrap up warm and, for 30 minutes, we'll toast with two drinks.

Additional Information

Between October and April, to close the tour, we'll enjoy a lunch or dinner that includes a main course, dessert, and a non-alcoholic beverage at El Cucharón restaurant, which overlooks Lake Argentino. In this case, we'll drop you off at your hotel 4 hours after pickup.

On the other hand, from May to September, at the end of the tour, we'll sample a hot chocolate at Ovejitas de la Patagonia. We'll return to your hotel 3.5 hours after pickup.
