Florence Wine Windows Tour
Tour Details
At the stated time, we’ll meet on the central Via de’ Lamberti to begin this Florence wine windows tour. Ready to discover one of the best-kept secrets of the Renaissance city?
Our first stop will be at the Loggia del Porcellino, where we’ll learn about the curious legend of this bronze boar. Did you know that rubbing its snout is said to bring good luck? We’ll then continue along Via delle Terme until we reach Piazza del Limbo, one of the oldest squares in Florence, where we’ll enjoy a small olive oil tasting.
We’ll carry on along the outer route of the Vasari Corridor while sharing stories about the power and secrets of the Medici family. We’ll cross the iconic Ponte Vecchio, once lined with butcher shops and now transformed into a haven for jewelers and artisans.
In the Oltrarno district, the most genuine heart of the city, we’ll discover the famous wine buchette, tiny windows through which Florentine nobles once sold wine directly to local residents. This custom began as a way to avoid contagion during the Black Death.
Today, many of these windows have been restored, and at one of them we’ll taste a glass of Tuscan wine served exactly as it was centuries ago. You’ll be surprised to learn that there are more than 170 of these small windows scattered throughout Florence, some of them almost invisible.
Finally, we’ll arrive at the lively Piazza Santo Spirito, surrounded by artisan workshops and trattorias that preserve the most vibrant soul of Florence.
We’ll say goodbye here after 1.5 hours of touring.
