Every corner of the ancient Rajasthani citadel of Jaisalmer will leave you enchanted, and this guided walking tour is the best way to get to know the so-called Golden City.
Meet your professional English-speaking guide at Tilo Ki Pol, the picturesque gateway to Lake Gadisar in the heart of Jaisalmer, and one of the area's most photographed monuments. From here, you'll begin your free walking tour of the Rajasthani city. As you explore the captivating architecture throughout the streets, you'll learn all about the history of each of the landmarks along your route, and about the fusion of cultures that has developed here thanks to the many centuries of legendary history.
Your walking tour will take you to the Jaisalmer Museum and Cultural Centre before heading to Salim Singh Ki Haweli, an old stately home whose yellow sandstone tones are the perfect reflection of the surrounding desert, like much of the other architecture in the Golden City.
You'll discover more landmarks that have an important historical value, including Patwon Ki Haveli, Nathmal Ki Haveli, Badal Mahal and the Tazia Tower. While each architectural gem shares the same golden hue as the rest of the city, you'll be able to appreciate the huge variety in the intricate sculptures that decorate them.
The final stop on your free walking tour will of course be the magnificent Jaisalmer Fort, one of very few - and possible the only - living fort in the world, as almost a quarter on the city's population still live within the citadel. On this awe-inspiring note, your free tour of Jaisalmer will come to an end.
