Secrets of Madrid Night Tour
Tour Details
"Halt, show your face." "State your purpose in the Villa y Corte." The officers guarding one of the entrances to the capital of the Spanish Empire had to keep a close eye on who entered the city. Many of them didn't even have time to draw their swords. A point-blank shot from an arquebus was all it took for the cloaked criminals to dispatch the guards at Madrid's gates.
At the designated time, we'll meet in the center of Madrid and make our way to Plaza de la Provincia. There, in front of the monumental Palacio de Santa Cruz, today the home of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we'll explore what lies beneath Madrid's streets, including the fascinating secrets of the metro, one of the city's most popular modes of transport.
From there, we'll head to La Latina, one of Madrid's oldest and most enigmatic neighborhoods, passing through the Plaza de Puerta Cerrada. We'll also stop at the Mercado de la Cebada and the Museo de San Isidro to discuss the origins of the city and the miracles attributed to Madrid's patron saint.
The route continues to the Viaducto de Segovia, where we'll uncover the dark stories of the tragedies that have taken place on this bridge before moving on to the area surrounding the Almudena Cathedral. Here, we'll share the origins of a legend dating back to the 9th century.
Just a few steps away, we'll pause in front of the Royal Palace to reveal its own shadowy legend...
Finally, after 2 hours of exploring, we'll say our goodbyes with a journey back in time to the era of the Spanish Inquisition, a surprising story to bring the tour to a close.
