History

Established in the 17th century as part of Buen Retiro Palace, Retiro Park in Madrid changed from a royal retreat to a beloved public space in the late 19th century.

Things to see

The Crystal Palace is a must-see when you're visiting the park—one of the most photographed landmarks in the city, the glass structure today is often used for exhibitions.

Another key feature at Retiro Park is its lake, which is framed by the monument to Alfonso XII. This is a great spot to grab a coffee, or to rent a rowing boat and paddle in the water!
