Day Trip to the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl Volcanoes

  • 128 reviews | 1,573 travellers
This was such a fun day of hiking with beautiful views! Fabricio was an amazing guide and made sure we had a good time. We stopped on the way back for beers and tacos, which was a nice way to finish the day. The hike was not too hard, but we took it slow because of the altitude. Highly recommend!

Tour Details

We'll pick you up at the indicated time at the Hostal Amigo in Mexico City and from there, we'll head south towards Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park. We'll stop along the way so you can buy something to eat for the day.

We'll arrive at The Jewel, in the famous Paso de Cortés which connects the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes, from where the conquistador Hernán Cortés and his men saw the Mexican Valley for the first time on the way to Tenochtitlán (today Mexico City). From here we begin our climb up the mountain, taking a route of intermediate difficulty, allowing both beginners and experienced climbers to enjoy the ascent.

As you climb, you'll take in unforgettable views of the Mexico Valley and the surrounding towns. Depending on your physical condition, you can decide where you want to climb: the first mirador is at 3,800 metres above sea level, and the second at 4,300 metres.

One of the major attractions on this day trip is being able to admire Popocatépetl, Mexico's second tallest volcano, surrounded by the strange smoky figures the constant volcanic activity creates.

We'll make a stop so that you can have lunch on your own, and finally, we'll return to the meeting point in Mexico City, where we'll conclude this 11-hour activity.
