This traditional show in Kyoto will introduce you to the intense training that maikos undergo to become geishas – it'll be a very interesting experience!
Traditional Maiko Show in Kyoto
At 9 am, we'll meet at Namba OCAT, where the bus will be waiting for us to take us to Kyoto. The trip from Osaka will take about an hour.
The first stop of the day will be at Fushimi Inari-Taisha, the main Shinto shrine in Kyoto and one of the most important in Japan. Here, we'll enjoy touring this ancient temple built in honor of the goddess Inari and admiring its iconic torii arches.
Afterwards, we'll take a train to downtown Kyoto to attend a traditional maiko show. Do you know what maikos are? They are the apprentice geisha!
Once we get there, we'll meet a real maiko who will show us the ins and outs of her strict training and delight us with a traditional dance. Also, we'll refuel with a rich buffet-style lunch that will include such popular dishes such as chanko nabe, the traditional food of sumo wrestlers.
After meeting the maikos, we'll get back on a train that will take us to Arashiyama to visit its famous bamboo forest – it looks straight out of a fairytale!
Finally, we'll get back on the bus and take you back to Namba OCAT, where we'll arrive at 6:30 pm.
