Mayan Face Sunset Hike
Hike Details
Want to admire one of the best sunsets over Lake Atitlán? In the early morning, we'll pick you up at your hotel, and before sunrise, we'll begin a 1.5-hour journey to Santa Clara La Laguna.
Here, we'll find the start of the trail leading to the legendary Rostro Maya or Mayan Face, also known as "Indian Nose."
We'll tighten our shoes as the darkness surrounds us to begin an uphill hiking route of 45 minutes. The flashlights will help us illuminate the way, and we'll only hear the crunch of our steps on dry leaves. As we advance, the hike will become more exciting.
The scenic views will appear before our eyes—the sign that we're reaching the viewpoint of Rostro Maya. Get ready because the views are unforgettable! Once at the top of the hill, you'll witness how the sun starts to appear behind the Tolimán, Atitlán, and San Pedro volcanoes. You'll see Lake Atitlán at its calmest, resembling a mirror of orange and pink hues at sunset.
We'll see how the light slowly reaches the towns of the lake's shores. After the hike, it'll be a well-deserved sight! With a hot drink in your hands, you'll revitalize and share this moment by taking beautiful pictures. Afterward, we'll begin our descent with the daylight to the starting point.
Finally, we'll return to Panajachel, where we'll drop you off at your hotel after 5 to 6 hours in total. What a way to start the day!
