Calabaceira Valley Hike + Cidade Velha Tour
Hike Details
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Praia and set off on a hiking route through one of the most historical cities of Cape Verde.
First, we'll head to the Calabaceira Valley, where we'll start a hiking route that will take us to new heights where we'll see some of the most beautiful landscapes of Cape Verde. We'll walk along trails of unparalleled beauty, featuring volcanic craters and endemic flora and fauna.
What's more, during the hike through the Calabaceira Valley, we'll see the famous giant baobab mentioned by Charles Darwin in his writings during his visit to Santiago Island. To complete the hiking route, we'll meet local farmers who will tell us the secrets of the sugar, banana, mango and coconut plantations so common in the area.
Afterward, we'll arrive at Cidade Velha, the historical center of Ribeira Grande. This place, declared a World Heritage Site, was the first European colonial settlement in the tropical zone. We'll see its great attractions, such as its churches, the Picota Square and, of course, the Royal Fort of San Felipe.
Finally, we'll return to your hotel in Praia 4 hours later.
