On this free tour of Puerto Colombia, we'll travel back in time to discover the history of a municipality that marked the economic development of the country, serving as the main seaport between 1893 and 1936.

Tour Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the plaza Francisco Javier Cisneros and, once we're ready, we'll begin this free tour of Puerto Colombia. This municipality has a very significant history, especially for its role as a gateway to the country.

During the tour, we'll travel back in time as we pass through its most important points of interest. We'll visit Muelle 1888 dock, which was one of the longest in the world at the time and the main gateway to and from the country during the 19th and early 20th centuries. We'll admire its remains while we talk to you about the time when thousands of people and goods arrived in Colombia through it.

Afterwards, we'll pass by the old Railway Station, another trace of the commercial importance of Puerto Colombia. This station was the connection point between the dock and the city of Barranquilla. Its architecture is a testimony to the Belle Époque of the Colombian Caribbean, an expression that is popularly used in the country to refer to the first half of the 20th century, a time of splendour, European cultural influence and economic growth.

Our free tour will continue through the streets of downtown Puerto Colombia, full of houses with colonial-style facades. We'll pass by local shops and workshops, where artisans work on unique pieces. As we go along, we'll approach the Malecón, where we'll get a beautiful panoramic view of the Caribbean Sea and admire the Puerto Colombia Light, a lighthouse standing at 70 m (229 ft) tall.

Finally, we'll say our goodbyes at the departure point after a 2-hour tour.
