On this guided tour of the Pre-Columbian Art Museum and the National History Museum, we'll embark on a journey back in time to Chile's past through the collections of both exhibitions.

Tour Description

We'll begin our tour by meeting at the indicated time at Plaza de Armas, under the majestic equestrian statue of Don Pedro de Valdivia, the founder of the city. Ready to visit the most important museums in Santiago de Chile?

There, we'll start the tour by talking about Valdivia's journey, and his arrival to Chile in 1541, laying the groundwork for understanding the impact that colonisation had on the Pre-Hispanic people.

A short walk from the square, we'll arrive at the Pre-Columbian Art Museum, located in the old Palacio de la Real Aduana. This museum houses an impressive collection that celebrates the cultural diversity of the Americas, with over 3000-year-old Andean textiles and Chinchorro mummies, the oldest in the world, standing out.

Through ceramic, metal, and stone pieces, we'll discover the masterpieces of civilisations such as the Maya people, the Aztecs, and other cultures that inhabited Chilean territory. Without a doubt, this journey back in time will amaze you!

After exploring the marvels of Pre-Columbian art, we'll make our way to the National History Museum, where the most significant milestones of the Andean country are narrated. This museum has a valuable collection of furniture, costumes, paintings, coins and archaeological pieces that illustrate Chile's past. In addition, with the help of informative models and recreations, we'll learn about the stages through which the country has passed.

We'll finish the tour after a total of 3 hours of diving into the roots and cultural evolution of Chile.
