Immerse yourself in Cuban culture on this guided excursion to the historic city of Cardenas and discover everything there is to know about Cuban rum and cigars.
On the morning of your tour, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Varadero at 9 am and set off by minibus to the nearby town of Cardenas. During the 20 minute drive, we'll talk all about the importance of cigars and rum in Cuba, and in Cardenas in particular, the birthplace of Havana Club rum.
Having reached Cardenas, we'll visit the Battle of Ideas Museum to delve into Cuban history, before enjoying a stroll through the historic city centre. We'll make a stop at the house of a Cuban artisan who can make entire rum barrels with their own hands.
Afterwards, we'll embark on a traditional horse-drawn carriage ride around Cardenas while enjoying the first rum tasting of the day. Admire the city's colourful houses and discover its main monuments, like the cathedral and statue of Columbus, while you sip on one of Cuba's most iconic products.
We'll continue the tour until we reach Callejón Gastón, where we'll delve into the roots of Cuban religion while visiting a 100-meter open-air gallery full of sculptures and paintings. Then we'll take a drive through the city in the direction of Happy Bar. There we'll have our first digestif and a typical Cuban lunch, which will conclude with the sampling of a Havana cigar made exclusively for the occasion.
During the tasting, you'll also discover three types of Cuban rums, differentiating their colors, aromas and particularities, as well as the history behind them. We'll also learn about the cigar production process and learn how to taste them with one of the most famous bartenders in the area. Afterward, we'll offer you a delicious full-bodied coffee.
On the way back, we'll make a stop at the largest statue in the city, a crab over 4 meters high. After taking the obligatory photo, we'll take you back to your hotel in Varadero at 2 pm.
