    The views were worthwhile and our guide John was excellent and super helpful. If you are struggling with altitude sickness or you are not in shape, I highly recommend the horse option for this hike.

Rainbow Mountain, also known as Vinicunca and the Mountain of Seven Colours is a truly unique Andean mountain in Peru, just two hours from Cusco.

Did you know...

The stunning colours of Rainbow Mountain only came to be in 2015, when thick layers of snow and ice melted away to reveal the multi-coloured mountain which had been hidden for centuries.

How to see Rainbow Mountain

Before you visit

Check the weather forecast! It's best to visit Rainbow Mountain during the dry season, which is between March and November. Also, be sure to prepare yourself for the altitude—the summit of the mountain is 5200 metres (over 17,000) above sea level. As such, it's a good idea to give your body a couple of days to acclimatise to the altitude of Cusco before making this trip.
