Los ciudadanos españoles necesitan pasaporte en vigor con una validez mínima de seis meses para entrar a República Dominicana. No se exige visado para estancias turísticas de hasta 30 días. No obstante, las condiciones pueden variar según la nacionalidad. Por ejemplo, argentinos o mexicanos pueden tener requisitos distintos. Por este motivo, se recomienda siempre consultar la embajada o consulado antes de viajar para confirmar los requisitos actualizados.
Aunque todo depende del presupuesto, la mejor época para viajar es entre diciembre y abril, durante la estación seca. Durante estos meses, el clima es más fresco y apenas llueve. Esta temporada es ideal para disfrutar de la playa y actividades al aire libre. Entre mayo y noviembre se produce la temporada de lluvias, especialmente de agosto a octubre, cuando hay más riesgo de tormentas tropicales. Aun así, es un destino cálido todo el año.
República Dominicana es un destino muy popular y seguro para los viajeros. Las zonas turísticas como Punta Cana, Samaná o el área colonial de Santo Domingo resultan bastante seguras aunque conviene no moverse por barrios poco conocidos, especialmente por la noche. La moneda oficial es el peso dominicano. Aunque en algunos hoteles y comercios turísticos se aceptan dólares o euros, lo más habitual y beneficioso es pagar en moneda local. Es posible cambiar dinero en bancos, casas de cambio o, directamente, obtener efectivo en cajeros automáticos. Las tarjetas se aceptan en la mayoría de hoteles y restaurantes grandes, pero es útil llevar algo de efectivo para hacer compras en mercados o pagar billetes de transporte.
República Dominicana se encuentra en el huso horario GMT-4. Si lo comparamos con la España peninsular, hay una diferencia de 5 horas menos durante el invierno y de 6 horas cuando en España se aplica el horario de verano. Los dominicanos no modifican la hora según estaciones, así que su horario se mantiene constante en todo el año.
