Day Trip to El Ceibal
Day Trip to El Ceibal
To begin the tour, we'll pick you up in Flores at your hotel or the airport at 8 am and head to the town of Sayaxché, where a boat will be waiting to take us to our destination.
We'll hop aboard the boat and set off afloat the La Pasión River until we reach the Mayan archaeological complex of El Ceibal, whose origins date back to the year 400 B.C. - talk about a blast to the past!
Then, it'll be time to disembark and walk along a stretch parallel to the river until we reach the archaeological site. Once there, we'll begin touring the grounds: sectors A, C, and D, the circular pyramid, the zoomorphic altar, and the ball game field... the Mayans were big on sports!
Another highlight are the various tracks or Causeways, which connect the architectural complexes, and learn about the building techniques used by the Mayans. We'll also get to see El Ceibal's collection of stelae, stone shafts carved with figures called glyphs.
After completing our tour of this magnificent historical site, we'll return by boat to Sayaxché and hop on the bus back to Flores. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled for around 3:30 pm.
