Day Trip Details
We'll leave from your hotel in Kolkata at 9 am. Two hours later we'll arrive in Chandannagar, a city noted for its French heritage.
On the banks of the Hugli River lies the Chandannagar Strand, an extensive promenade where we'll learn about the history of the Vivekananda Mandir meditation centre. The tour continues with a visit to the Chandernagore Institute Museum. In this educational institution, where French is still taught, we'll see a large collection of antiques linked to the Gallic past.
After this visit, we'll see the façade of one of the main Catholic temples of Chandannagar, the Sacred Heart Church. We'll then walk through the neighbourhoods where the city's most illustrious personalities lived. On this route, we'll pass the homes of revolutionary leaders Rash Behari Bose and Kanailal Datta.
The last stop will be in Kumartulli, which literally means "pottery town". Did you know that craftsmanship in this part of India is more than 300 years old? We'll review its history and discover what links the potters have with the famous Hindu festival Durgá Puyá.
The tour will end by returning to your hotel in Kolkata, arriving at 5 pm.
