Tour Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet at 36 Boulevard des Canuts, from where we'll kick off an exciting free tour into the rich history of Lyon. Let's go!

Our journey begins in front of Le Mur des Canuts, the largest mural in Europe. This impressive fresco tells the story of Lyon’s silk workers, and we’ll uncover more of its fascinating history as we take it all in.

From there, we'll explore the Croix-Rousse neighborhood, known for its gourmet pâtisseries and wine bars. As we stroll its charming streets, we'll arrive at the Croix-Rousse Market, the heart of the district, where locals come to shop for locally made products. Next up, we'll walk over to Maison des Canuts Museum, an institution that showcases Lyon’s deep-rooted connection to the silk industry through rich collections and exhibits.

Did you know there was a resistance movement in Lyon in 1848? As we make our way to the Cour des Voraces courtyard, we'll uncover the events that led to this uprising and the role of Jean Moulin in Lyon’s history. Here, we'll also find one of the city's most famous traboules—hidden passageways once used by silk workers and resistance fighters.

Then, we'll walk through Place Chardonnet, another central square of the city, as we make our way to the Amphitheater of the Three Gauls. This Roman-era site once played a significant role in Lyon’s history, back when Lyon was a major Roman city. Then, we'll walk down Montée de la Grande-Côte, leading us to the Fontaine Bartholdi, a breathtaking fountain designed by the same artist who created the Statue of Liberty.

Finally, after 1 hour and 45 minutes of sightseeing, we'll bring the experience to an end in front of the Hôtel de Ville de Lyon. See you next time!
