Why Visit the Royal Collections Gallery?

Located between the Royal Palace of Madrid and Almudena Cathedral, the Royal Collections Gallery is an extraordinary museum dedicated to the Spanish Crown.

With this ticket to the Royal Collections Gallery, you’ll be able to explore the museum’s permanent collection at your own pace. The route begins on floor -1, the Habsburg Floor. Here, you’ll discover a brief introduction to the Trastámara dynasty, the lineage of the Catholic Monarchs, and learn about the reigns leading up to Charles II.

The route through this floor continues with rooms dedicated to the monarchs of the House of Habsburg: Charles I, Philip II, Philip III, Philip IV, and Charles II. Floor -1 also houses archaeological remains belonging to the oldest section of Madrid’s Arab wall.

Highlights of this section include:

  • Portrait of Isabella the Catholic by Juan de Flandes
  • Flemish tapestries
  • The armor of Charles I
  • Paintings by El Greco, Titian, and Bosch
  • A painting of a white riderless horse by Diego Velázquez
  • The sculpture of Archangel Saint Michael defeating the devil by La Roldana

Meanwhile, on floor -2, the Bourbon Floor, you’ll find the exhibition dedicated to the kings and queens of the House of Bourbon: Philip V, Louis I, Ferdinand VI, Charles III, Charles IV, Ferdinand VII, Isabella II, Alfonso XII, and Alfonso XIII. In this section, you’ll see:

  • 18th-century furniture, clocks, tapestries, and paintings
  • A 19th-century royal carriage
  • Royal photographs from the early 20th century
  • Historic musical instruments
  • Works by Velázquez, Caravaggio, and Goya

From the Royal Collections Gallery, you’ll also enjoy magnificent views of the Manzanares River and the Campo del Moro gardens, whose pathways are also worth exploring.
