Set sail on Ireland's largest lake and discover the Medieval castles and historic ruins on Inchagoill Island and in Cong with this cruise on Lough Corrib from Oughterard.
Lough Corrib Cruise
We'll meet at midday at Oughterard Pier, where the Queen Corrib boat will be waiting for us. We'll then set sail on Lough Corrib, the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland, to the first stop on our tour: Inchagoill Island.
Arriving on Inchagoill, we'll enjoy a guided tour of the ruins of St Patrick's Church, which date back to the 5th century. We'll also discover the history of ancient monuments like Lugnad's stone, the Templenaneeve or "Church of the Saints" and the tomb of Muirgeas O'Nioc.
After exploring the fascinating historic ruins of Inchagoill, we'll head back to the boat and sail to the lakeside village of Cong to visit the famous Ashford Castle. We'll reach Cong at around 1:30 pm and you'll then have three and a half hours of free time to explore at your leisure. Admire the beautiful gardens and impressive façade of the castle, these days home to a luxury hotel, and stroll around the charming village itself. Did you know that 1952 Oscar-winning film The Quiet Man was filmed here?
At 5 pm, we'll meet back up again and make the journey back to Oughterard, where the tour will end at 6 pm.
