Île de la Cité & Exterior of Notre Dame Cathedral Tour
Tour Details
We'll meet at the indicated time on Rue d'Arcole, just a few metres from Notre Dame Cathedral. From there, we'll start our walking tour of the Île de la Cité, one of the oldest and most emblematic areas of Paris.
For about an hour, we'll explore the secrets of this little island in the middle of the Seine, considered to be the birthplace of Paris. We'll stroll through its cobbled streets as we relive the past, from the Roman foundation of Lutetia to the Gothic Paris of the Middle Ages.
The star of the visit will undoubtedly be the Notre Dame Cathedral. We'll stop in front of its façade to admire its sculptures, gargoyles and rose windows. While we admire the exterior of the church, we'll explain the symbolism of its architecture and the different stages of its construction. A fascinating history lesson!
We'll also tell you about the impact of the 2019 fire and the restoration work that has been carried out since then. You'll be impressed!
Once you have finished your guided tour of the exterior, you'll have the opportunity to continue exploring the interior of Notre Dame by yourself, thanks to a handy audio guide, which you can download to your phone via an app. This tool will allow you to learn about the stories, legends and architectural details of this icon of European Gothic architecture as you stroll through its naves at your own pace.
A visit to the interior of Notre Dame with an audio guide typically lasts about an hour.
