Travel to a town frozen in time and the volcano that buried it. Experience unique insight into life in ancient Rome exploring the ruins of Pompeii and climbing Mount Vesuvius. An unforgettable day trip from Positano!
Pompeii & Vesuvius Day Trip
The best way to wrap your head around what happened to the city of Pompeii in August of the year 79 AD is to visit Mount Vesuvius. Seeing the enormous crater of one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world, you'll soon understand the destruction it created and how over a thousand people and an entire town were buried alive.
After picking you up from your hotel in Positano, you'll begin your day trip to Pompeii. Arriving at the archaeological site of the ruined Roman town, your expert guide will point out the typical houses, workshops, and kitchens that have been so well preserved under volcanic ash. You'll be completely captivated by the incredible detail of this snapshot into ancient life, as you see even wooden objects and distorted human bodies frozen in time.
Then, as we head towards the legendary Mount Vesuvius, we'll make a stop at a local vineyard, where we'll enjoy an exquisite lunch with a traditional appetizer and a delicious pasta dish, accompanied by a tasting of Vesuvian wines.
After a hearty lunch, you'll be taken to the volcano that caused its destruction, following in the footsteps of the legendary hero Hercules. Hear the myth of this iconic figure's journey to Vesuvius, and decide for yourself what's true...
Climbing up to the summit of Mount Vesuvius you'll be able to see traces of lava from its latest eruption, and reaching its peak your hike will be rewarded with incomparable panoramic views over the Gulf of Naples. An unforgettable sight!
At around 4.30 pm you'll be dropped back off in your hotel in Positano.
