See the world-famous Colosseum from a different perspective, on this underground tour, taking in parts of the structure not normally open to the public!
Colosseum Underground Tour
The tour meets at Largo Gaetana Agnesi, and we'll head straight to the Colosseum - the symbol of Rome and site of innumerable bloody fights, executions and victories, with stories to match. Today is a little different, however, as this tour leads you in the footsteps of those gladiators past: through the tunnels where they prepared for their battles, the areas where lions and tigers were kept before being winched into the arena, and a visit to the rest of the Colosseum means you'll get a complete picture of this iconic landmark.
Then we'll leave the Colosseum behind, traversing the "Via Sagrada" or "Sacred Way", the route Imperial celebrations and triumphal processions would take - running from the temple where Julius Caesar himself was cremated. We'll get a deeper insight into the culture and history of Rome visiting the Roman Forum itself with its most important governmental buildings in ancient Rome, and its centre of justice and politics.
In a poetic twist, the tour finishes back where it all began, on the Palatine Hill - the most central of Rome's seven hills, and the place where legend has it Romulus and Remus were found by the she-wolf, and where Romulus triumphed over his brother in the fight to build his own city.
