    Very good activity. The Yeso reservoir is spectacular; I would extend the outdoor activity time and eliminate the chocolate house and the closing dance.

Just outside Santiago de Chile, the Cajón del Maipo is a dramatic Andean canyon known for its rivers, peaks and wide range of outdoor activities. It is one of the capital’s most popular day trips for travelers seeking nature and fresh mountain air.

Background and landscape

The canyon stretches along the upper basin of the Maipo River, framed by steep walls and snowcapped peaks that rise to more than 16,400 feet (5,000 meters) in the surrounding Andean ranges. The area is dotted with small villages, hot springs and hiking routes, offering a clear contrast to the urban landscape of Santiago only miles (kilometers) away.

Cajón del Maipo is ideal for visitors who want scenery without committing to a long expedition.
