Explore the essential sights in Skeppsholmen with this free tour, and discover why it's known as the isle of boats.
Free Tour of Skeppsholmen
The very first thing you see when you arrive to Stockholm by sea is the Skeppsholmen island. If your interest has been awakened, and you're dying to discover the island, meet your guide at the National Museum and begin this free tour!
We'll cross the Skeppsholmen bridge, famous for its gold colour, and explore the quiet streets of the island. From there, you'll enjoy some of the best views of the historic centre of Stockholm, with the Palace and Cathedral rising above the rooftops of the Sweedish capital, as well as the bhoemian Södermalm area and Djurgården, also known as museum island.
On the island itself, we'll pass by the Moderna Museet, sure to stand out for the monstrous technicolour sculptures in front. Then following the tour we'll make our way to the Alf Champan boat. No idea why it's so important? Soon you'll know just why!
Then it's on to the home of the famous Charles XII of Sweden, where he lived along with his 200 bodyguards. As we discover Skeppsholmen, you'll hear fascinating stories of its history, from King Frederik and his tigers and lions, or the bunker that became a toy museum!
To put an end to the free tour of Skeppsholm, the tour crosses a little bridge, to visit the Kastellholmen island castle. Did you know that this is the place that holds the key to whether Sweden is at peace or war? Up high in its tower you'll find the answer!
Finally, following two hours exploring the island, we'll finish the guided tour alongside the golden crown of the Skeppsholmsbron bridge.
