Guided Tour of Aveiro
When making the reservation, you have two options to choose from:
Tour of Beira-Mar (45 minutes)
We will meet up at Praça Joaquim Melo Freitas square, in the heart of Aveiro. From there, we will start our guided tour of the Beira-Mar neighborhood, which developed outside the old city walls.
Our guide will lead you around all the essential landmarks of the city's most traditional neighborhood. Beira-Mar is also one of the most colorful areas in all of Portugal. Historically this has been the home to fishermen, seafarers, and workers at the salt pan, which has helped to create a unique, authentic atmosphere.
You will also see examples of the Art Nouveau architectural style which characterizes many of the buildings in Aveiro, such as the Casa do Major Pessoa, and Casa dos Ovos Moles, where you will try the local delicacy Ovos Moles de Aveiro.
Tour of Beira-Mar and the Old Town (1.5 hours)
If you would like to delve deeper into the history of Aveiro, you can combine a tour of the Beira-Mar neighborhood with the Old Town.
In Beira-Mar, our English speaking guide will show you the elegant facades of the Art Nouveau buildings that characterize the area. You will visit the ancient salt pans, which can be traced back to the 10th Century. You will also see São Roque canal and its iconic bridges, such as the Ponte de Carcavelos, which evoke the style of the famous canal bridges of Venice. Finally, you will have the opportunity to try the local delicacy, Ovos Moles de Aveiro.
Strolling through the Old Town of the "Portuguese Venice", you will encounter the Praça da República square which is home to some of the most iconic buildings in Aveiro, the Misericordia Church, the Aveirense Theatre, and the City Hall. We will also visit the Praça Marquês de Pombal square, where you will see the Museum and the Cathedral.
Our guided tour of Aveiro finishes in the center of the Aveiro, so you can continue exploring the city by yourself.
