Day Trip Details

We’ll pick you up at your hotel at the indicated time to begin a full-day excursion through some of the most fascinating cultural and historical sites in the Cusco region: Raqchi, Tinta, and the San Lorenzo de Valleumbroso Hacienda. Ready? Let’s go!

Our first stop will be San Pedro de Cacha, located on the banks of the Vilcanota River. Here, we’ll visit the archaeological site of Raqchi—an awe-inspiring place that was once the capital of the Kanchis nation.

Standing at the foot of the ancient Quinsachata volcano, we’ll explore the Temple of Wiracocha, built to honor one of the most important deities of the Inca pantheon. We’ll also discover colcas (storehouses) and royal tambos, whose stories are still wrapped in mystery and legend.

Next, we’ll head to the town of Tinta, known for its pivotal role in Peru’s fight for independence. This was the site of the uprising led by Tupac Amaru II, leader of the largest indigenous rebellion against the Spanish Viceroyalty. We'll learn about his legacy and visit significant landmarks of the revolution, including his house-museum.

Our visit in Tinta continues with a stop at its 17th-century church, home to a golden altar and magnificent colonial artworks by masters such as Diego de la Puente, Francisco Serrano, and Marcos Rivera. After exploring, you’ll have time for lunch at a local restaurant, to enjoy at your own pace.

We’ll then continue to the colonial bridge of Tinta, an elegant structure with semicircular arches built in 1740. After crossing the viaduct, we’ll make our way to the grand Hacienda of San Lorenzo de Valleumbroso.

This impressive colonial mansion, built atop Inca foundations, once belonged to the Spanish explorer Rodrigo de Esquivel. His descendants held the noble title of Marquis of San Lorenzo de Valleumbroso.

We’ll explore the estate’s arcaded patios, elegant halls, and open courtyards, all with sweeping views of the Cusco Valley. Declared a Cultural Heritage Site of Peru in 1991, the hacienda is currently undergoing restoration by the National Institute of Culture.

After this immersive day of history and culture, we’ll return to your hotel, arriving 10 hours later.
