Lucerne Free Tour
Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll begin this free tour of Lucerne from the dock located at Landungssteg, 1, in front of the train station.
After admiring Lake Lucerne and the Lucerne's modern railway terminal from this point, we'll cross the Reuss River over the Seebrücke. On the other side of the river is the Church of St. Leodegar, built in the 17th century on the site of an ancient Roman basilica.
From this church, we'll take a walk to the Lion of Lucerne Monument—the icon of the city! This sculpture, the work of the Danish artist Albert Bertel Thorvaldsen, has a great symbolism that we'll try to decipher as we admire it.
Next, we'll return to the banks of the Reuss River to visit the Kapellbrücke, which has the privilege of being the oldest wooden bridge in Europe, dating back to the 14th century! As we walk across the Kapellbrücke, we'll see the unique paintings that decorate its roof. These images, which were added in the 17th century, are sure to impress you.
Finally, we'll cross the bridge to the Jesuit Church in Lucerne and, after a route of approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, we'll conclude the free tour by returning to the vicinity of the meeting point.
