Watch the colorful troupes of the Montevideo Carnival perform on the amazing stages known as 'tablados'. This tour will take you to some of the most important around the city.
What to expect
Once we have collected you from your hotel, we will explore different neighborhoods in the Uruguayan capital in search of the most exciting 'tablados' of Montevideo Carnival.
For the whole month of February, the different troupes (the carnival musician groups) show off their rhythmic and dancing abilities in some lively shows. These performances take place on open-air stages called 'tablados'. We will witness various performances and you can dance along to the infectious grooves of the traditional drummers. You will see how these groups pay homage to the mix of African and Uruguayan traditions which are behind these parades.
Each stage show is judged by a panel in a kind of talent competition. The groups which reach the final will then pass to an official competition held in the Ramon Collazo Theatre every night. During our tour, you will also witness the performances held at this legendary venue. The groups, which are formed of up to 50 musicians, compete in 5 different categories which represent the different styles of performances. Find out what they are when you take this tour.
When the show at the theatre has finished, we will take you back to your hotel in Montevideo.
