Parque Rodó Free Walking Tour
The famous Parque Rodó Castle is the departure point for our guided tour of these beautiful gardens situated on the south side of Montevideo. While we hear about the castle's origins and the famous Uruguayan writer and politician who this park is dedicated to, we will head to the musically themed walls which bring color to this city. The realism of these paintings will amaze you.
We continue our free tour of Parque Rodó hearing all about the history of the last Uruguayan dictatorship, and how this park played an important role in that period. The walk continues to the monument dedicated to Jose Rodó. Closeby to this iconic stature, we will come to the National Museum of Visual Arts. Inside the center, we will see a fascinating exhibition of Uruguayan painting and sculpture.
Our next stop is the grounds of the Luis Franzini Stadium where the local club Defensor Sporting plays its home matches. We will then pass the monument to Confucius, and learn what connection he has to Montevideo before we end the free tour in front of the headquarters of Mercosur, one of South America's most important intergovernmental organization organizations.
